Georgetown Day sweeps team titles in D.C.
District of Columbia (DCSAA) Highlights
Field events took center stage during the DCSAA State Track & Field Championships at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.
National Cathedral's Izabella Sabharwal soared to a long jump state title, going 19 feet, 1.50 inches to set a meet record. Ayana Dozier of Dunbar was runner-up (17-8).
In the triple jump, Dozier edged out Sabharwal for the victory. Dozier, a senior, went 38-7.50 to set a new all-time D.C. record. Sabharwal was second in 37-0.50.
On the boys side, it was all Derrick Donelson. The junior from Ballou won the triple (45 feet) and long jump (22-8) setting records in both events.
In the girls' high jump, Eastern sophomore Thea Shaw cleared 5-4 to win and set a meet record as well.
Eastern senior Tiffany Terry set a meet record in the discus, throwing for 97-5.
On the track, Wilson senior Drew Glick highlighted the distance events, winning the 1,600 (4:25.50) and 3,200 (10:04.29) and placing second in the 800 (1:59.98). His 1,600 time was a meet record. Georgetown's Tristan Colaizzi won the 800 in 1:58.22.
In the girls relays, McKinley Tech's 4x100 (49.42) and Wilson's 4x4 (4:00.38) set meet records.
The Georgetown Day boys (87 points) and girls (130.33) swept the team titles. |
