St. John's Extends Domination In The District; Attiogbe Runs 4:06.66 For 1,600 Win

The St. John’s track and field dynasty continued at the D.C. State Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Held May 23-24 at Dunbar High, the St. John’s boys and girls swept the team titles. The St. John's boys claimed their third straight title with 141 points, while the girls dominated the field with an impressive 223 points. 

On the boys side, the Cadets were paced by a strong middle-distance showing in the 800 meters, going 2-3-4, as Keenan Frisby finished second in the 400 and 800 for the Cadets and ran the anchor on the record-setting 4x400 relay (3:22.12). The team also set a meet record in the 4x100 relay, clocking 42.92 seconds. 

In the sprints, McKinley Tech’s Ayotunde  Ejiko won the 100 (11.06), 200 (21.68) and 400 (49.42). 

Other noteworthy performances included St. Albans’ Pierre Attiogbe wins in the 800 (1:59.29), 1,600 (4:06.66) and 3,200 (9:46.74). Attiogbe’s time in the 1,600 was a new state record. He also was part of the record-setting 4x800 relay that finished in 7:50.48. 

Gonzaga College set a record in the 4x200 (1:29.13) and Clayton Gary of Sidwell Friends won the long jump in a record jump of 23-6. 

On the girls side, there was never a doubt as St. John’s rolled to its fourth consecutive title. The Cadets were paced by senior Lailah King, who broke a meet record in the 100 prelims (11.97), won the 200 (24.43), was part of the winning and state record 4x100 (46.92).
